The Baker

The Pie Guy.

Bernhard Dagmar Duderstadt is a German-American immigrant and professional baker of more than thirty years.

Arriving in the United States all alone, at the humble young age of eleven years old, Bernhard built a successful baked-good empire out of little more than mere pennies and a passion to bake the best pies that the tristate-area had ever seen.

The Duderstadt family lived in Fürstenfeldbruck, and when they came across lean times, their beloved lawn gnome was repossessed. Since it was necessary to protect the strawberry garden against "witches, spells and wood trolls", his father dressed Bernhard up as a gnome and forced him to stand watch for hours at a time during the day and night. Any time Bernhard tried to move, such as when friends came by to play "Kick the Schtumpel", to eat Prinzregententorte or to wave at his neighbor Kenny, his father was right there, yelling at him "Bewegen Sie nicht!"("Don't move!").

It was at that moment the Bernhard caught a whiff of a pie cooling on the window sill and decided to leave his life as a guardian garden gnome behind and pursue a life consisting of the confectionary arts, specifically pie-making.
